I’m always on the lookout for new ways to optimize my web pages, because I want to constantly be improving my “Fan Conversion Rate”. That is the percentage of people who join my mailing list divided by the total number of people who visit my site.
So if 100 people visit and 10 of them join my list, I have a Fan Conversion Rate of 10%…get it?
The reason I want this number to be really high (around 35% or higher if possible) is that all things being equal the more you increase the number the more music you will sell without any more work.
But how do you get ideas for new stuff to test?
Well this link takes you over to a special search on a site called Clickbank which lists some of the best selling information products on the Internet. These products have nothing to do with music at all, but I figure that if those pages are doing the best job in terms of sales, then I need to be investigating how they’re doing it and why they work.
I believe that there is no such thing as music marketing really, because great marketing works for across the board and if you can figure out what motivates people to support and invest in a product or person you’re one step away from selling a shit load of music.
Obviously you don’t want to be as obnoxious as those sites, but you can subtly test some of the same methods to improve your results as well.
That’s just the way I see it, but I know a lot of people will view them as a bunch of spammy crap and that’s cool. (Please don’t let that stop you getting the lesson from the video today)
Using this policy of monitoring highly profitable websites I’ve come across a new tactic for boosting Fan Conversion Rate by massively increasing the perceived value of your free music giveaway.
No point keeping this to myself…I reveal all in the video below.
Enjoy,
- Chris
