The idea of getting a lot of music fans visiting your site and listening to your music can seem a little bit daunting if you’re just starting out.
So today I want to give you a simple road-map that you can start using to turn your site into a new fan magnet.
Forget all the crazy marketing chatter, this is about taking action…
…so let’s get started.
1. Yahoo! Answers
If you have not used this site before you should check it out.
There are questions posted on there each day by highly targeted and motivated music fans, who you can redirect to your website. Once on your mailing list, Yahoo! answers people will be your biggest cheerleaders.
I just did this search for Metallica…

and Dr Dre…

Ba Da Bing! I’m sure you could jump in and provide some good info whatever kind of music you do.
The main thing to remember is that you should give really useful answers then leave a subtle link back to your site.
Tip: Only post a link in 50% of you answers so that you don’t piss Yahoo! off.
The goal is to get voted the “best answer” because this will bring you the most hits. Take your time and really think about what you are going to write.
The other great thing about Yahoo answers is that it ranks well in Google so your great answer has the potential to be seen by the masses.
For best results use the advanced search feature to find questions that have been posted most recently and that are still “open”.
Your mission – answer 20 questions per day.
2. Social News
This one is simple, you post a newsworthy music article to your blog then fire up a tool called Onlywire to blast it out to all the top social new sites like Digg, Stumble upon and Redit.
If you article is truly newsworthy it will get picked up, and these sites will bring you a whole bunch of traffic.
To find out the breaking news in your music scene go here…
Warning: Make sure that you don’t just post your own work in Onlywire because you will get banned in the social news sites. A good idea is to post links to other blogs that you have commented on as well.
Your mission – write a 500 word ultra newsworthy blog post and post it to Onlywire.
3. Squidoo
Take the article you wrote for the social news sites and now post it to Squidoo.
(Think of Squidoo like Google’s “Homie”. Anything you add there should rank well in the search engines.)
Another method is to look for what your fans are searching for and write an article about that. I explain this process in the video below:
At the end of any article posted to promote your site you need to request that visitors click through to get more information, so you might say something like this:
“If you like Johnny Cash then you might also like YOUR NAME. Click here to get my 14 days of music for free.”
Paid resource => John Oszajca talks about this process in great detail in his course.
Your mission - post one article per day to Squidoo.
4. Guest Blogging
I have talked about this before but I mention it again because it works so well.
Most bloggers are starving for content, and we’re starving for fans…perfect match!
You just write a great piece and then submit it to the top music blog in your scene.
You can also try www.myblogguest.com to find posting opportunities.
You can reuse the article you wrote for the previous steps as long as you let the blogger know that it’s “re-posted content”.
Don’t forget to add a link back to your own website..
Your mission – submit 3 guest posts to popular blogs – If one gets approved it could bring you more than 100 hits in a matter of minutes.
5. Become An Article Machine
Finally you want to use the article you wrote and post it to Ezine Articles, Article Base, and Article Dashboard.
Website owners use these sites to find content for their readers which will help build your brand and the amount of new fans that come to your website each day.
This is not instant because it takes a couple of days for Ezine to approve your work, but article marketing works like a charm for musicians if you use the method in the video above.
Your mission – post one article per day.
6. Music Forums
Go to google and type in the style of music you play + “forum” like this…

The web is full of people spending hours and hours every day discussing the latest music news, and it’s your job to sign up and start contributing to the conversation.
The way you get fans back to your site is to leave a signature link on your forum posts.
Your mission – post 10 good replies on the top forums each day.
7. Tag Your Tweets
If you’re writing about music news on your blog, then make sure that you always post all of your content to Twitter with the relevant hash tags.
That way, if like-minded fans search for information about your topic they will click through to your website if your writing sounds interesting.
Your mission – learn how to get more Twitter hits here.
8. Comment On Blogs
Find the top five blogs in your music scene and when a new post goes live you want to head over to the site, read the post all the way through and then create a thoughtful and helpful comment of about 250 words. Most blogs will allow you to include a link back to your own site.
Keep your eyes open… if you notice the blog author sending an email or tweet about a new post you want to make sure that you get over there quick and post your comment. A new post will get a burst of traffic in the first few hours as the author promotes it, so you want to make sure that your comment is in place when the flood comes in.
Your goal is to get one of the top 3 comment spots because this will bring you the most clicks to your site.
Tip: make sure that you don’t always get the top comment spot because the blogger will see it as spam even if your comments are great.
Read Using Blog Commenting to Promote Your Music for a full tutorial on this method.
Your mission – post 20 blog comments per day.
9. Play The Super Fun Viral Music Lottery!
Track what is going viral on the Internet using a site called Stuff to Tweet.
Now take inspiration from what is engaging people most and produce something similar for yourself each week based around your music.
This is kind of like playing the lottery, sometimes nothing will happen, sometimes you will win $10, and on a couple of magic occasions you may hit the jackpot.
Your mission – don’t spend too much time on this but I recommend you at least buy a ticket each week
Final Thoughts.
This post basically lays out a plan you can use each day to ensure that you have a steady flow of people finding your music.
If you do everything laid out here I fully expect that you will get much more than 100 people to your site.
It will take a little bit of time and effort to go through the process each day, but if you can just get 10 people per day to join your mailing list from these tactics, you will be putting approximately 3650 new fans into your gang each year!
…plus as you follow this plan each day you will start to gain momentum, and it will cause a snowball effect of hits.
Hope that helps you, I’d be happy to take your questions on anything mentioned.

- Chris
