Over the past few weeks I’ve been laying out a couple of new music business models you can use to turn your songs into a full time income without loads of hassle and confusion. You can catch up with those here:

Today I want to talk to you about one of my favorites, and something that I will be testing a lot this year.
Imagine a world where you have 1500 people in your fan club all paying you $5 a month to get access to a “song of the week” and other premium goodies. That’s a nice $7,500 income per month just from making the music you love.
You can simply spend the whole week working on your track and then use Aweber to send out the songs automatically. Sounds like a nice job to me
The great thing about a $5 price tag is that you don’t need to be a master sales person to get people interested, and once fans join they are unlikely to cancel such a low subscription fee.
To take payments you can set up a quick Paypal subscription button.
This is hands down one of the most simple ways to make money as a musician.
The Tricky Bit, Getting People To Join
Fear not my eager friend, I’ve got your back on this one too and it’s not as hard as you think.
First See my 100 New Music Fans post for ideas.
But if you really want to speed things up you need to find the people who control the opinion of your music scene and then offer them an incentive to promote for you.
In the old school marketing world affiliate sales are massive…affiliates are people who promote your product and get a commission for their time.
Clever marketing people know that a massive affiliate army will help you win the war in ANY industry so why has this not been transferred over to music yet?
…ummm???
I’m not really sure but in my humble opinion this is the fastest way to build a list of music buyers, so it’s the process I’m going to be laying out for the remainder of this post.
First of all you need to realize that people are not likely to promote for a share of your $5 fan club, so we need to create a “front end product”.
You give away all the income from the front end and in return you get a list of hungry music buyers who you can promote your fan club to.
I hope that make sense, the process goes like this…
- Create a digital music download that you will sell for $10. To learn how to create a irresistible offers see this post.
- Use Rapid Action Profits to set up your sales system so that you can offer people 100% of your income if they promote for you.
- Now work out who has the ear of your potential fans. Is there a magazine or blog that everyone reads? Or a radio show that everyone listens to? Make a list of 20 targets.
- Find a phone number for each of these targets and write a phone script to introduce your offer to them. I like getting on the phone because it gets faster results, but if you cannot find a number email is OK.
- Call your targets and offer them 100% instant commission on your digital download. (Don’t pitch it as a bribe because music enthusiasts hate that. Say something like, “if you think my music is cool then I be happy to give you an incentive to promote it”.)
- After fans buy your digital download send them regular emails and treat them like royalty. Once you have built a relationship it’s time to pitch your fan club as a low cost high value bit of heaven on EARTH!
That’s it!
Why 100% Commissions…
It’s all about getting buyers onto your list as easily as possible, so that you can promote your fan club. If you can build a list of people who have already pulled out their credit card and paid for your music they’ll be 10x more likely to join.
At the moment you’re breaking your ass trying to market your music in all different ways.
But if you just piggy-back on the efforts of other influential people you can avoid years of music marketing tears and syphon off a section of their most dedicated music fans. This is a total win win because you’re giving the promoters a source of income, and you’re getting a stream of eager music buyers.
So What’s The Catch
The only think that might hold you back with this is setting up Rapid Action Profits.
The software can be a bitch to learn and took me a couple of months to master. But luckily if you have any problems you can just ask me.
Final Thoughts
The whole goal of this process is to get music BUYERS onto your list, because these are the people who are going to sustain your career and let you keep doing what you’re doing.
Forget about making money from your digital albums, just give all the cash away and motivate the top people in your music scene to support you.
Using this process and a lot of hard work I believe a musician could achieve a full time income in two months as long as the music is top quality. That’s pretty fucking cool when you think about other people trying to get signed for 10 years, then giving up completely!
Let me know if you need help with this,
- Chris
P.S Make sure you have amazing music otherwise you’ll be wasting your time. If in doubt follow my music creation system everyday
