This post is part of Music Marketing Challenge
Most musicians trying to get fans for the first time often find it very hard to get the ball rolling, because there will probably be nobody on the internet searching for what you do.
This leaves us with a problem…how are you going to get fans if nobody ever has the chance to hear your stuff?
This kind of boils down the tricky bit of DIY music marketing into one nice little problem. At the end of the day making an income from your music is sort of a numbers game.
Big stars have the most interest and hits so they make the most money, but the little guys might get only 100 hits per month, and selling anything might be as rare as rocking horse shit…sorry to be vulgar
One of my big realizations over the last couple of years is that the solution to this tricky little conundrum is surprisingly simple.
Ready? Ok here goes…
At first you need to connect your music and marketing with stuff that people are already searching for, until they get interested and want to follow what’s happening in your world too.
We started this process posting cover versions to YouTube, and the video below will take you through the next step…

This is so great. I did just this! I’ve been making music for almost 10 years and had been promoting and booking bands for just as long.
I decided in 2010 to become a writer. I knew so many bands and so much about the music industry that I decided to use my connections and resources to make money as a music and fashion journalist. It was the most important career move I’ve ever made.
I have been able to make money and bring so much respect and attention to myself by helping bands and giving them exposure. This is a wonderful blog post.
It is also very important advice. Thanks so much for sharing.
