Music Marketing Challenge Day 27 – Collecting Fans at Gigs / Open Mics

This post is part of Music Marketing Challenge

This lesson is very “old school” music marketing, but to be honest with you people are sometimes over-excited about the latest “flavor of the month promo” tactics and forget about the basics that always work.

Ignore this one at your peril young Skywalker!

I can’t tell you how many gigs I go to where musicians are totally dropping the ball…I would say that 95% of people have totally forgotten that one of the main reasons to spend all that time booking shows, and making sure everything goes well, is to build a following.

Loads of cool musicians are forgotten about because they have no way to follow up with people who liked the show.

We’re also going to cover how open mic nights can be part of a healthy music marketing diet…I know a bunch of people will think I’ve gone mad, but hear me out, and then throw the abuse ;-)

So without further adoo let’s look at how we can take one of the oldest music marketing tactics and give it a little modern twist.
