Music Marketing Challenge Day 6 – Creating An Wicked Freebie

This post is part of Music Marketing Challenge

Today is all about creating a really cool freebie that you can give to potential new fans in exchange for their email address.

This will give you a good way to follow up with people for a long time to come, and is much better than trying to get them to buy your stuff the first time they hear about you. (I mean when was the last time you stumbled across a new musician and instantly pulled out your credit card?)

It’s much easier to catch a few of these interested people on your list, so that you have the opportunity to warm them up and show them how cool your music is. Then in the future when you have built up a kind of friendship you’ll have the chance to let them know about your paid offerings, and will have a much better chance that they will take notice.

Another marketing fundamental to remember here is that it’s much easier to sell your music to repeat buyers, than it is to be constantly finding new fans all the time. Which is why we cultivate a healthy and responsive email list like a farmer grows peas ;-)

Email is good for this process because people are more use to buying things through email rather social media where they just want to chat to their friends and ads are thought of as the devil.

To set this up you need a freebie that stands out from the crowd and setting this up will be a good marketing lesson for you because we’re going to be looking at how you can reposition a product and give it more perceived value without too much more work.

For instance, “Download my collectors package” sounds better to me than “Download my MP3″.

Both cost you zero to deliver but the package should get a lot more music fans on your list.

The collector’s package is a great idea Chris. Definitely going to create that ASAP!

Quick question: For some reason my maximum upload size on WordPress is 2MB. How do I raise it to 64MB like you show in the video?

Never mind. Found this nice little video to help increase your upload limit in WordPress.
