Wow…I think I went a little over the top in the title today
But anyway…
I just got an email from a nice man named Hassan asking a very important question. So I thought it would be a good idea to answer it on here as I’m sure some of you will be wondering the same thing.
Here’s what he wants to know…
“Hello Chris,
I’m a recording artist, singer song writer, and pianist and I wanted
to ask you if I wanted to send my list a video per week, what kind of
content should I have in the video I’ll give them every week to keep
them excited about being on my list. I have 3 hours of piano music on
3 CDs. That’s something I can give for free…but I’m planning to make
some piano and vocal music next. What can I put iin the videos I send
them…how do I keep them interested over a longer period of time?
So, I wanted to ask you what you might suggest as far as sending
videos for me in keeping a list happy and interested and coming back
for more.
All the Best,
Hassan”
Hmm…brain chugging into action, there is the smell of smoke and eggs…Eureka!

Here’s what I think…
“Hello Hassan great to hear from you.
I would consider the following, but not
all of these will be totally relevant to you as
I don’t have the full details of your marketing setup :
- Links to interesting blog posts
– Latest news related to the music scene that you’re part of
– Alerts about Facebook and Twitter chats
– Free music downloads
– Backstage video
– Discounts for your shows and merch
– Reviews and interviews
– Album artwork
– Music videos
– Tour diary
– Live rehearsals
– Progress of your recordings (Take people along for the journey)
– Survey fans about how you can make your site and offers more appealing (Use Survey Monkey)
– Anything off-topic that shows your personality
Those just popped off the top of my head but I hope it
gives you some ideas, basically drip feed your fans with cool
stuff and keep it interesting.
You can then add in the odd promo link for your paid stuff
once in a while.
If you don’t have anything cool to send, better to hold
back and shoot for quality over quantity.
You’re right to ask because just sending mp3s out
is not going to get people that excited, unless you
play the piano “Only with the power of your mind” or some
other miracle that will make people forgive a boring email.
Us mere mortals need to put a little more time and effort
into fan connection, but you could use an Auto Responder
to send your fans an Automatic series of emails when they
join your list, so that you can sit back on the beach
and drink Pina Coladas
…thanks for putting up with my silly jokes today and let me
know if you need anything else
- Chris”
