Hey Guys,
Hope you’re having a productive day…I’ve been reading Richard Branson’s book this week called Screw It, Let’s Do Itand he’s always banging on about enjoying what you do and having fun so I’ve decided to make a new rule…
If anything in music marketing sucks ass and is boring as hell, it’s going out the window and I’m going to find something more fun for us to work on.
Cool?
Richard Branson is kind of nuts! What shocked me most from his book was how many times he has nearly killed himself in the pursuit of enjoyment even though thousands of people rely on him as the managing director of Virgin, not to mention his duties as a Dad. He just takes the risk anyway and always seems to come out on top. Lucky dick!
I’m pretty sure that If I got in a hot air balloon and tried to fly around the world, the basket would fall off and Chris Rockett’s cold little body would be washed up on some uninhabited beach never to be seen again.
I’m not lucky at all, if I want to get something I have to work my ass off and I think that’s true for most of you as well…
Not that my man Richey Branson isn’t clever. You can’t build a massive company like Virgin without an incredible amount of skill and natural talent; even if his happy goatee bearded face, and hippy hair doo make him look like he’s got a giant stash of potent Marijuana in every Virgin Atlantic flight.
All I’m saying is that from an early age Richard was taught the principles of being an entrepreneur and given the skills to be a very smart thinker by his parents.
Most of us on the other hand get programmed to work 9-5 until we’re nearly dead, then spend the rest of our lives pissing our knickers and mumbling something about the war.
FUCK THAT…it’s essential that we escape before the habit becomes too strong!
That’s what this blog is all about, giving you the skills to “stick it to the man” and march to the beat of your own drum. It’s my hope that each post brings you a little closer to learning the skills you need to be FREE.
Free from record deals, free from your job and free from all the confusion and bullshit that people usually have to go through in an effort to get their music heard.
Forget about fame. You’re already a musician and you don’t need record sales to prove that, it’s just a case of showing people how cool your stuff is without too mush effort, and while still having fun.
People tend to forget the “actually being a musician” part and spend too much time on other unpaid careers like sitting in-front of a TV for hours every night reviewing crap shows loaded with clever advertising.
Don’t worry…I do it too
I know this article has not revealed some amazing new tactic to get 1 billion fans to your site in 45 seconds, but maybe I can leave you with a little bit of motivation…
Set up your music fan club and then spend the money on a trip to space with Virgin Galactic.
Reach for the stars my music marketing friend…wow that was probably the most cheesy think my fingers have EVER typed.
OH well…
