I was just reading a post on Hypebot that got me thinking about something very interesting, and that is the idea of the “Middle Class Musician”.
Who is the Middle Class Musician?
- Takes every opportunity to build a mailing list
- Has a blog and posts news on the music scene
- Learns about music marketing
- Gives away great value to the fans
- Is not shy about promoting great music for sale
- Organizes their own shows
- Sees their music career as art and business
- Makes a full time living from music
Who is the Upper Class Musician?
- Signed to a major label and selling million of records, but has very little control.
Who is the Lower Class Musician?
- Sits in the bedroom, does nothing and wonders why fans are not breaking down their door to buy the music.
