OK I’m going to get right into this today…

So rather than telling you some long winded story about why this tip is so freaking cool, I’m just going to lay out some steps you can use to get a massive bump in fans over the next few months.

*Note* Obviously the ‘How to “Get Famous” in a Band’ title was a bit cheeky…but any musician could use this method.

This tactic will cost you a little bit of money, but you should be able to cover the cost and make a profit if you set up your email follow-up correctly.

I call this “Music Marketing Arbitrage”….

Arbitrage means that you take a resource (in this case cash) and put that money into a situation that is more profitable.

The process of music marketing arbitrage goes something like this…

You find a website in your music niche that displays banners, then you email that website and ask to put your own banner on there for a fee. Maybe $300 per month.

You then track how many new fans join your list from that banner over a month long period, and how many albums you sold.

If your banner made more than you spent you keep it running, then find another site to work with.

If not you remove the banner and find another site to work with.

Do The Math

Making an estimate of how much traffic your banner will bring is key to knowing how much you can afford to spend per month.

So even though I’m a little bit crap at math let’s look at how we can do this.

Below you will find a rough estimate of the top ten Google positions, and the percentage of the traffic each gets.

For this example we are going to use the search term “hip hop songs” and using the Google keyword tool we can see that the search term gets 673,000 hits per month on Google alone.

So if we look at the chart above we see that the top site would get 42.1% which means that if the top site could get about 283,333 views each month.

After a little bit of tweaking we should be able to get 2% of those people clicking our banner on that website, which would be 5666.66 people coming to our website each month.

Now we need to test our email sign up page until an average 20% of those people join our list. This would give you roughly 1133 new subscribers each month.

Finally we need to create a high value music bundle which converts fans to subscribers at 3%. This gives you 33 music sales per month.

You can price your music bundle anyway you like, but I would suggest no lower than $30 because 33 sales would give you $960 per month which is a nice healthy profit margin.

BINGO!

That means if you pay $300 a month for your ad you’re in the money by more than 300%!

With this knowledge you could make your offer to the site owner feeling confident even if things go wrong you should at least break even.

Follow these steps

  1. Create your banner and the page where you will collect email addresses.
  2. Go to the Google keyword tool and find a high traffic keyword related to your music nitch.
  3. Now type your word into Google and go through all the sites until you find one that has banners on it.
  4. Email the site owner and ask how much they would charge per month to put a banner on their site.
  5. Whatever price they quote make them an offer at 20% less.
  6. Once agreed you just send them the banner and start to track the performance.

.

You Will Need

  • Two banners, to split test which one gets the most clicks.
  • A simple website that collects your fans’ email addresses.
  • An email list provider like Aweber.
  • 14 messages that follow up and build a relationship with your fans and then sell them your music bundle.

.

Banner Tips

  • Use Gimp to create your banner for free.
  • Use a standard banner size.
  • Only pay if you can get either a heading banner or a large sidebar banner. (If your banner is hard to see it will not get clicked.)
  • Make the banner animated if you can.
  • Sometimes ugly banners get clicked on more.
  • Make your offer clearly in your banner.
  • Use a banner rotator to work on the number of clicks your banner gets.
  • Split test 2 totally different banners for a big increase in clicks.

.

Website tips

You can get a simple website on day 3 of the music marketing blueprint course.

Final thoughts…

Simple ideas are usually the best and they don’t come much more simple than this one.

Set aside a small amount of money to invest in your career and give it a try.

Good luck,
