My Honest Review of www.VibeDeck.com

Hey Guys,

I just came across a promising new tool for musicians, so I thought I would jump on the cam and tell you about it.

The site is called VibeDeck.com and will let you sell your music instantly to your fans through PayPal. Very cool because you get 100% of the cash and don’t have to wait for checks or anything crap like that.

They say this service will always be free and they even host your music. You could effectively run your whole music business super simply by posting up YouTube videos and sending people to your VibeDeck page if they want to buy.

Here is the test page I set up in the video…

The video shows me logging in for the first time and going through the whole process because I want to show you what it takes to set this up from scratch. Plus I thought it might be fun for you to see me fumbling around a totally new site ;-)

Hi Chris – you can change aiff files to wav files easily with iTunes, on a mac. Look in the General tab in iTunes preferences, and go to Import Settings and choose WAV Encoder. OK your settings, then select the aiff track you want to change, and choose Advanced > Create WAV Version.

    Cheers – Robin

How does vibedeck compare to bandcamp?

  • Anonymous

Well, imagine they took Bandcamp, completely copied it, and then wrote Vibedeck at the top. So basically, it compares completely. Kind of sad.

Hey man, as long as Vibedeck continues to be free it will be a good option for people on a low budget.

I think you have to pay 15% or something to bandcamp so VibeDeck will pay out a little more.

Although bandcamp comes highly recommended and is free to set up.

Wow.  How do I find out how much Paypay will charge?  I don’t want to sell my songs for less than the PayPal fee.  I’d be paying people to download my music.

Lol, yeah that would be crazy.

You can find out about the fees here: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-receiving-fees-outside

It would be cool to hear some of your music. What kind of guitar is that you’re playing.

it seems that if you sell a song for 99 cents that Paypal will keep 2.9% (almost 3 cents) plus 30cents. That is 33 cents and your would only keep 66 cents for you sale. That is actually less than one would get selling through iTunes. Can anyone comment on this? I hope I am wrong but I believe these are PayPals minimum charges.

I think for the average person, to get their songs on iTunes they need to do it through an aggregator like CDBaby who does it for you. As far as I know, you can’t work directly with iTunes unless you have a back catalog of 20 albums! CD baby and others like Tunecore will put your songs on iTunes and Amazon, but they charge a commission and a set up charge.

To put an album on CD Baby it costs $39 ($9.95 for a single) and then they take a 9% commission on anything sold through iTunes,(more if sold through their website) you have to bear in mind iTunes also take their share which is $0.35 per $0.99 song! Here’s CDBaby’s pricing http://members.cdbaby.com/cd-baby-cost.aspxSo, i think, from a $0.99 sale on iTunes through CDBaby you get about $0.57, having paid either $9.95 or $39.95 to get it set up.I believe you’re right about how much Paypal take, so with VibeDeck you’ll get $0.66 but its free to put up however you don’t get as much exposure as you do with CDBaby.Sorry thats so long,  if i’m right, i hope it helped! If i’m wrong please tell me!
